As a teenager, I read a book about midwives and immediately knew that someday I would become one myself. That conviction never wavered even as life led me in other directions, including earning a bachelor's degree in environmental science, working as a botanist all over the U.S. and the world, and experiencing new cultures through travel. During those years, I also attended births as a doula and did volunteer work in human rights and public health.

Eventually, I followed the call to midwifery and graduated with my M.S. in Midwifery from Bastyr University in 2021. I trained with rural midwives in Washington and Arizona, then finished my training at Puget Sound Birth Center. My master's thesis helped pave the way for midwives to provide expanded reproductive health care here in WA.

As a midwife, I have been part of several local practices in the Puget Sound region, and am excited to support the Snohomish Midwives team! I have also worked in Guatemala and Honduras training midwives and advocating for humanized obstetric care, and locally as a community health nurse and lactation consultant.

More than 400 births later, each one still surprises me with its magic. My goal is to create supportive spaces for families to learn, be vulnerable, and make choices that are aligned with their values and needs. A special passion of mine is supporting other queer folks on the journey through pregnancy and parenthood. I also speak Spanish fluently and love caring for Spanish-speaking families.
In my time off, you can find me traveling, swimming all year round, riding my bicycle, or adventuring in the outdoors with my rescue pups.

Midwifery Student, Bastyr University
Liz moved from Missouri to Washington in September 2024 to become a midwife—a decision six years in the making. She is from a close-knit community and passionate about giving back to them. Liz offers years of experience working in teams and client-facing jobs. In her spare time, she is a Turn Up dance fitness instructor and loves to foster instinctual, joyful movement.

Sarah Weltz, she/her
Nurse Midwifery Student, University of WashingtonSarah is a Nurse-Midwifery student at the University of Washington and I am so excited to be learning from the Snohomish Midwives this quarter! I am honored to enter a profession where I can support families and birthing people through their pregnancy journey, birth, and the transition to parenthood, along with supporting all other sexual and reproductive health needs. Before I pivoted to nursing, I did breast cancer research at the National Institutes of Health. At the same time, I fell in love with midwifery work and the various ways midwives advocate for patients' reproductive rights and bodily autonomy. While in school, I am also working as an OB nurse at NeighborCare Health, a community health center where I provide perinatal services and support.

Outside of my professional life and when I can find some free time, I love open-water swimming in the many different bodies of water around Seattle, playing Wingspan, crocheting, and frolicking with friends!
