Jessica Swan (she/her)

Jessica, a North Carolina native, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2011 with a degree in psychology and promptly enrolled in the newly created MS in Midwifery program at Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA. While in midwifery school, Jessica was a student midwife with Eastside Midwives at Puget Sound Birth Center in Kirkland, WA.
Upon graduation in 2015, she was hired on as a full time midwife where she practiced until June 2020. She has attended over 350 births and thousands of hours of prenatal and postpartum care. Jessica wrote her Master's Thesis on the use of the Laryngeal Mask Airway, a simple tool that can be used to improve neonatal resuscitation. As a midwife, Jessica has precepted a dozen students and found that her biggest passion is teaching and helping midwives improve their skills. For years, she was the Clinical Education Supervisor in the Department of Midwifery at Bastyr University where she oversaw the clinical education of 30-40 midwifery students, taught the clinical skills series, and facilitated the practical exams. Jessica is also passionate about the development of community midwifery in Washington. She has served as the Vice President of the Midwives' Association of Washington State, the state's largest professional midwifery organization. In her spare time, you can find Jessica power lifting, doing yoga, and spending time with her wife, partner, and wonderful community. |
