Shelby, Birth Assistant
Shelby first discovered her passion for Birth through her personal rite of passage becoming a mother. After birthing her son Helios naturally and ecstatically with the care and support of a Midwife, she became inspired to learn more about Birth and become an advocate for promoting sacred, safe, empowered Birth experiences for all Women and their families.
She connected with Melissa through her political activism work in spring 2009, as a volunteer lobbyist for Citizens for Safe Birth. Since then, she has been apprenticing with Snohomish Midwives, learning the role of a Birth Assistant and relevant clinical skills. She has participated in other Birth education, including Birth Doula training at the Simkin School of Allied Birth Vocations of Seattle Midwifery School. She is a member of PALS Doulas and is working on becoming certified as a Doula. She also continues to be a political activist for families’ health and freedom with Voice of the Future Children’s Advocacy Alliance.
Shelby is a Snohomish local, a member and resident of Wise Earth, an intentional community in Maltby, and a member of the worker collective farm business, Wise Earth Organics. She has been working with a healing art called Reiki since 2007. She leads Firewalk ceremony as a tool for transformation connection and intention setting. She loves playing with her son on the farm and in the forest, singing and dancing with loved ones, hot springs hikes, creating art and gardening.
